In ihrer eigenen Partei regt sich Widerstand. Und nun bläßt Andrea Ypsilanti zusätzlicher Gegenwind aus der Linkspartei entgegen. Die hessische SPD steuert mit ihrem Kurs auf eine rot-grüne Minderheitsregierung in schwierige Gewässer.
HB FRANKFURT. Aus der Linkspartei kam am Mittwoch die Warnung, dass sie einem Bündnis von SPD und Grünen nur von Fall zu Fall zu einer Mehrheit im Landtag verhelfen werde. Die Grünen stellten daraufhin prompt das Zustandekommen einer rot-grünen Regierung in Frage.

Dabei steht die hessische SPD noch am Anfang ihrer Bemühungen um die Ablösung von Ministerpräsident Roland Koch (CDU). Der Landesvorstand wollte am Abend einen Zeitplan aufstellen, der frühestens im November in die Wahl von SPD-Landeschefin Andrea Ypsilanti zur Regierungschefin münden könnte.

Turkey’s highest court rejected a demand to outlaw the Islamist-rooted governing party AKP for undermining secularism in the country. The EU welcomed the ruling and called on Turkey to continue its reform process.

Six of the 11 judges voted in favor of closing down the Justice and Development Party (AKP) — one vote short of the required majority, Court President Hasim Kilic said on Wednesday, July 30.

“Polen wird nicht als Bremse fungieren”, sagte der europaskeptische Politiker am Mittwoch in einem Fernsehinterview. Allerdings müsse darauf geachtet werden, dass sich die irischen Wähler aus freien Stücken für den EU-Vertrag entschieden und nicht dazu genötigt würden, fügte Kaczynski an.

Die Iren hatten das Vertragswerk vor einigen Wochen in einem Referendum abgelehnt und die Europäische Union damit erneut in eine Krise gestürzt. Der Vertrag kann nur in Kraft treten, wenn ihm alle 27 Mitgliedstaaten zustimmen. Irland ist das einzige Land, dass dazu eine Volksabstimmung abhalten muss. Über das weitere Vorgehen ist noch nicht entschieden. In Polen stimmte das Parlament bereits für den Vertrag, die Ratifizierung ist aber wie auch in Deutschland erst mit der Unterschrift des Staatsoberhauptes abgeschlossen. Kaczynski hatte am Dienstag überraschend angekündigt, seine Unterschrift zu verweigern und gesagt, nach dem Nein der Iren sei eine Unterzeichnung momentan “sinnlos”.

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran said Tuesday that additional sanctions by the European Union will not affect Tehran, while President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad proposed the formation of a special court to punish the world “tyrants” for their attempt to thwart Iran’s nuclear program.

Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying to a group of judges that “a court should be formed to try and punish all world criminals who invade the rights of the Iranian nation,” according to the state IRNA news agency.

Iran considers its nuclear ambitions — which the West claims mask weapons making — as an inalienable right. Tehran has dismissed Western claims and contends its uranium enrichment is only meant for electricity production.

Known for his anti-Western rhetoric, Ahmadinejad also denounced the West for “issuing a verdict” in the absence of Iran.

Ahmadinejad’s remarks were his first following a move by the EU which on Monday approved additional financial and travel restrictions for Iranian companies and individuals — including the country’s largest bank, Bank Melli Iran.
