US screens award winning Iranian film
Silence of the Sea by the award winning Iranian director, Vahid Mousaian, is scheduled to be screened in three US cities. The audience lauded the film warmly in the Los Angeles Theatre, which was the first venue of the film’s screening. “The screening is to go on in the performance art venues of New York and Chicago,” Mousaian told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). Silence of the Sea tells the story of Siavash, a middle aged Iranian man who has settled comfortably in Sweden. However, he suffers from a deep sense of guilt for having abandoned his parents, whom he left behind in Iran. Deciding to pay a visit to his homeland, he arrives at Iran’s Qeshm Free Zone on the Persian Gulf as the first stop in the country. The film explores one of today’s existential nightmares, made even more melancholy by the empty intimacy of cell-phones and the lonely feeling of never being able to reach the shore. |
