Bolivia’s Morales calls for expulsion of US ambassador
Bolivian President Evo Morales has ordered the expulsion of the US ambassador for allegedly inciting violent opposition protests. Washington has rejected the accusation as baseless and said the US government had not yet received any note on the expulsion. Morales’ announcement came amid spreading anti-government protests and hours after a pipeline blast triggered by saboteurs forced the country to cut natural gas exports to Brazil by 10 percent. Protesters occupied public buildings for a second day on Wednesday in the eastern city of Santa Cruz, an opposition stronghold and Bolivia’s economic hub. They want a bigger share of state energy revenues as well as greater autonomy from the central government in La Paz.
