John McCain (71) wollte den umjubelten Berlin-Auftritt von Barack Obama (46) in einem Wahlwerbespot auf die Schippe nehmen, vergleicht ihn mit den beiden Skandal-Promis Paris Hilton (27) und Britney Spears (26).
Einige Amerikaner konnten darüber gar nicht lachen. Jetzt meldet sich der mächtige Hilton-Clan im US-Wahlkampf zu Wort!
Paris’ Großvater William Barron Hilton (79) sei erzürnt, schreibt z. B. die australische Zeitung „The Sydney Morning Herald“. Er habe wütend bei McCains Wahlkampfteam angerufen. Der Älteste der Hotelerben-Familie beschwerte sich, dass der Spot seine Enkelin in ein schlechtes Licht rücke.

Das hat auch finanzielle Gründe: William Barron Hilton spendete dieses Jahr 18 400 Dollar für McCains Wahlkampf, Paris’ Vater Rick Hilton gab 6900 Dollar. Und das National Republican Senatorial Committee erhielt binnen zwei Jahren 35 000 Dollar von den Hiltons, berichtet die Zeitung. Nicht zuletzt zählt auch der Investor Blackstone, der letztes Jahr die Hilton-Hotels kaufte, zu den Unterstützern McCains.
McCain meinte den Vergleich mit Paris Hilton nicht als Kompliment – geht man so mit seinen Gönnern um?
Dabei hatte sich Paris nach ihrem Knast-Aufenthalt im vergangenen Jahr so sehr bemüht, weniger Skandal-Schlagzeilen als sonst zu liefern. Stets betonte die 27-Jährige, sie sei eine seriöse Unternehmerin. Zwar sah man sie noch feiern – doch so schlimm wie sonst trieb’s die wilde Paris Hilton wirklich nicht mehr.
